Berhampur: A special COVID-19 Care Center has been set up inside the Berhampur Circle Jail here for the treatment of prisoners infected with the Novel coronavirus or showing its symptoms.
In the initial phase, 50 beds have been arranged in the center, informed Jail DIG Raghunath Majhi.
The COVID-19 center has been made functional in the premises of new hospital building which was inaugurated last year inside the circle jail. The Jail Doctor will be the nodal officer for the Covid Care Center.
The inmates, who contract the virus or develop symptoms will be treated there, said Jail Superintendent Kulmani Behera.
As many as 35 prisoners and nine staff of Berhampur Circle Jail have tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday. They are being treated at the jail COVID center.
Last month, around 22 prisoners and two staff of the jail had tested positive and were accommodated in the Sitalapalli Covid hospital.
