Sudhanshu Sarangi Takes Charge as DG of Fire Services

Cuttack: Senior IPS officer Dr Sudhanshu Sarangi today took charge as the Director General of Fire Services Department, Odisha.

He took charge as the 45th DG of the Fire Services Department at its Headquarters in Cuttack. Sarangi will also be the Commandant General Home Guards & Director Civil Defence, Odisha.
“Happy to start on my new role as Director General Fire Service, Commandant General Home Guards & Director Civil Defence, Odisha. Honoured to serve & lead in these critical areas of public safety with an amazing team with formidable reputation for excellence in emergency response”, Sarangi wrote on a Twitter post.

Interacting with media after taking the charge, he said in the year 2000, there were only 112 fire stations in Odisha and now the number has tripled to 345. Our firefighters have received accolades for their work in other states, he said.

The number of kaccha houses in Odisha has gone down thereby reducing the number of fire incidents. But due to the rise of high rise buildings, the Department needs to remain ever ready for the eventualities.

He said that the Government has allocated an amount of Rs 240 crore for the development of the Fire Services Department. Work has been initiated for recruitment of about eleven hundred personnel in the Department, which will be completed in the next six months, he added.
