Surat Fire Tragedy: Odisha Fire Services Dept Conducts Raids at Coaching Centres in Twin City to Inspect Safety Arrangements

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Fire Services Department is conducting simultaneous raids at various coaching centres in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to inspect their fire safety measures to avoid any eventuality, media reports stated. 

The department has formed 22 teams to carry out the raids in the Twin City in the wake of disastrous fire mishap at a coaching centre in Gujarat’s Surat that killed over 20 students.  

 The teams will inspect around 22 coaching centres to find out whether these centres have been running with fire safety certificates and following the safety norms to avoid any eventuality, sources said. 

Earlier evacuation mock drill and various awareness programmes were being held at every educational institutions. Following the Surat tragedy, we are mainly focusing on coaching centres now, said Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy Chief Fire Officer Maheswar Swain.
