Target Zero Casualty: Ten Lakh People Evacuated in 24 Hours

Bhubaneswar: In view of the Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm FANI moving towards the Odisha coast, the State Government has successfully evacuated about a million people in the last 24 hours.

People from various low lying areas and vulnerable places have been moved to safer places and provided shelter in the cyclone shelters and special designated centers by the administration.

While more than 3 lakh people have been evacuated in Ganjam district alone, 1.3 lakh people were shifted to safer places in Puri district.

While reviewing the preparedness on Wednesday, the Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik had stressed on ensuring zero casualty in the aftermath of cyclone Fani and had directed officials of various departments to remain on high alert to tackle the Severe Cyclone.

He instructed the authorities to speed up the process of evacuation and shift people living in low-lying areas to safe places early to avoid any loss of life.

Speaking to reporters, the CM had said “I appeal to everyone that children, women, old and disabled persons be evacuated first. All precautions have been taken to face the cyclone. We are fully prepared to tackle the cyclone Fani”.
