Bhawanipatna: A woman Maoist was killed during an encounter with the security forces in border area of Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts.
Based on reliable intelligence, a combined team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) carried out anti-Maoist operations in Madanpur – Rampur PS area on Thursday.
The teams asked the Maoists to surrender arms. However, the rebels resorted to indiscriminate firing and the SOG team had to fire in self defence. Maoists also exploded some IEDs, according to police.
After firing stopped, body of a female Maoist has been found at the spot.
Many incriminating Maoist articles, camp articles, haversack and live ammunition have been recovered from the spot. Further search operations have been intensified in the area, police said.
