Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has ordered probe into the return of migrants by sea route to Ganjam district from Chennai.
State Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera has ordered for investigation into the sea voyage of 38 fishermen from Chennai to Ganjam district amid COVID-19 lockdown.
Action will be taken against the boatmen if they illegally bring or go to bring people from other places, Behera said.
The boat used by the migrants has been seized and strict vigil will be kept on similar movements towards the state through sea routes, the Minister said while adding that strict action will be taken against violators.
Notably, 38 fishermen, including 29 from Odisha and nine from Andhra Pradesh had landed at Pati Sonapur beach in Ganjam district after covering over 1000 km over the sea on Saturday evening.
The Ganjam District administration, which had prior information about the sea voyage, put them in a quarantine centre on Saturday evening.
Meanwhile, the swab samples of all the 38 have been collected and sent for COVID-19 test, informed Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
