Bhubaneswar: The season’s first floodwaters from the Hirakud Dam will be released today at 11 AM. A gate of the Dam will be opened and water will be released after a ceremonial Puja. According to the Water Resources Department, water level in the Dam at 7 am on 14th August stood at 618.29 ft and was rising. The Full Reservoir Level of the Dam is 630 ft.

Meanwhile the revenue and disaster management department has issued advisory to eleven district collectors to remain prepared for the impending flood situation in the downstream of Mahanadi. Due to heavy rainfall in the lower catchment areas of Mahanadi, 11.5 lakh cusecs water is expected to be discharged at Munduli on 15th August between 6 and 10 am. This is likely to cause medium flood in the Mahanadi and its distributaries. In view of this, the Special Relief Commissioner has requested the collectors of Bolangir, Subernapur, Boudh, Anugul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapada and Jajpur to take all necessary steps to combat the possible situation.
