Berhampur: There are rare instances when people fight all odds to help others in the name of humanity. Especially, it becomes motivating when a man comes forward to save the life of a person whom he does not know. There is no relationship but humanity and people like them are making the world more beautiful to live.
For Sabita, a resident of Patrapur village in Ganjam district who had just given birth to a baby girl eight days ago, a person from far away Rourkela become the savior when he donated his rare blood and saved her from further complications arising out of her delivery.
It happened on the 13th of October, when doctors at the MKCG Medical College Hospital found that Sabita carries a rare blood group – the Bombay Blood Group (HH-Bombay +Ve Blood ) and needs to be given blood immediately. As the blood bank had no stock of that rare blood and no relative of Sabita having the rare blood group, it became a challenge for her husband to get it. With her immediate and active intervention, Dr Rasmita Panigrahi of the Blood Bank started searching for the Bombay Blood Group by contacting many of the blood banks of Odisha. At last, she could find a person from Sundergarh who had the same blood group and contacted him for donation.
The person, Dilip Ranjan Barik, immediately agreed to give his blood for the lady in hospital as he already knew its rarity and had given blood four times earlier to as many persons. Social media platform Whattsapp is also said to have played an important role in the arrangement of the rare blood.
This kind act of Dilip has brought his laurels from various quarters. It has once again proved that a standard should be maintained so that immediate arrangement can be made for rare blood like the Bombay Group. As the blood banks are keeping a record of the donors, it became easy for them to contact and arrange blood.
The HH-Bombay +Ve Blood or known as the Bombay Blood Group derives its name from the City Bombay from where it was found in 1952. The blood is one of the rarest of the groups in the world as it can be found only in one person out of 7500 persons.
