Amy Officer, 3 Soldiers Martyred As Infiltration Bid Foiled Near LoC; 3 Militant Killed

Kupwara (Jammu & Kashmir): An officer of the Indian Army and three security personnel, including a constable of the Border Security Force or BSF, were killed in the line of duty during a major anti-terror operation along the Line of Control or LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district early Sunday. The gunfight began after the Indian Army and the Border Security Force intercepted a group of alleged infiltrators along the Line of Control. Three terrorists have also been killed in the operation.

“Suspicious movement of unidentified persons detected by own patrolling party near LC fence at Machil Sector (in Kupwara district of north Kashmir) on night 7-8 November at 0100 hours,” defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.

An encounter soon broke out in the area in which one of the terrorists was killed. A BSF soldier was also killed in action.

The firing stopped at 4 am. Following this, reinforcements were rushed to the area. Firing resumed at 10.20 am at approximately 1.5 km from the LoC. In the ensuing firefight, two more terrorists were killed.

The Army said it had so far recovered one AK-47 rifle and two bags from a slain militant even as searches continue in the area.
