Bhubaneswar: While the Odisha Government is taking all necessary proactive measures to keep the coronavirus at bay, the party workers of ruling Biju Janata Dal are playing a pivotal role in strengthening the government’s fight against the deadly virus.
The BJD workers are holding blood donation camps through the party’s widely-appreciated social service initiative ‘Jeevan Bindu’ programme to combat the lack of availability of blood in the State amid the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of the COVID-19.
Following party President and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s call to tackle the lack of availability of blood through ‘Jeevan Bindu’ programme at this time of crisis, the BJD workers organize blood donation camps in different parts of the State to help the people who are in dire need of blood.
The ruling party has recently collected a total of 70 units of blood through Jeevan Bindu donation camps at Jagatsinghpur, Rourkela and Angul, sources said.
Earlier this month, the BJD supremo had urged the party MPs, MLAs and all representatives of Urban Local Bodies and panchayati raj institutions to tackle the lack of availability of blood by through the ‘Jeevan Bindu’ programme.
The Jeevan Bindu programme, which was launched by BJD on March 5, 2015 to mark the 99th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, has now turned into a ‘People’s Movement’ in Odisha, achieving the goal of ensuring that no needy person is deprived of the life-saving blood in the State.
