CM Naveen Patnaik To Inaugurate ECMO Services at SCB Medical College Hospital Today

Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will today inaugurate the state of the art ECMO or Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation service at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. For the first time in India that any Government Hospital will have nine ECMO Machines in service. These machines have been installed at the Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery department of the premiere Medical College. Three of the machines will be used for covid patients and the other six machines will be for post-covid patients. The required manpower including six perfusionists, four anaesthesiologists and two ECG technicians have been recruited for the ECMO services.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Bhubanananda Maharana, Emergency Officer, SCB Medical College and Hospital said that “Now we have nine ECMO units, with which many precious lives will be saved. These services will be free for all. Odisha patients will not have to go to other states for this advanced treatment anymore.”
