Commissionerate Police Arrest Two under Covid-19 Pandemic Act

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Commissionerate police today reportedly arrested two persons under Covid-19 Pandemic Act.
Of two, one person said to be the employ of Ortel Communication Ltd.

Notably, the Bhubaneswar Capital Police had registered a case on the complaint filed by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The BMC has alleged that a reputed media house, OTV has hosted a news based on a viral audio of conversation between two persons depicts derogatory picture of treatment of patients in Covid hospital.

According to Police, the audio tape has been prepared by two including an employee of Ortel Communications Ltd.

“Prima facie, the investigation suggests that the audio recording has been prepared, circulated, edited, uploaded and propagated, with mala fide and mischievous intention as the clip contains misleading and false information about COVID pandemic,” police said.

“The mischievous conversation is trying to make others believe that there is false corona positive reports and persons are being shifted to hospital based on the false reports. It also claims that a target has been set to fetch patients to COVID hospitals. This goes against the guidelines related to the management of the present disaster and violates many legal provisions, thus attracting criminal action,” police  added.
