Doctor on Call: Ganjam Admin Introduces Telehealth Services to Beat COVID-19

Chatrapur: The Ganjam district administration has come up with a unique initiative to facilitate remote treatment of patients without requiring them to visit hospitals for minor ailments in view of the lockdown imposed by the government to beat the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The administration has formed a panel of volunteer doctors, who are renowned in their areas of specialization, to provide telehealth services to the people suffering from health problems that don’t require intensive hospital care.

The doctors will write prescriptions based on telephone conversations that reduce risks of transmission for medical professionals as well as patients.

According to Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, the initiative aims at reducing the unnecessary burden on the healthcare system in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak and to ensure social distancing.

However, the patients must visit to the hospital for anything related to the Coronavirus or other urgent medical needs, he said.

The initiative also makes healthcare accessible to remote areas in general and make faster intervention possible in view of the lockdown.
