Berhampur: The Ganjam District Administration has bagged two SKOCH Order of Merit awards for qualifying in semi finals for “Project DESHI” and “Mo Upkari Bagicha”.
This has been informed by Ganjam DRDA Project Director Shinde Dattatreya Bhausaheb.
The DESHI – Development and Empowerment of SHGs through Hen Infrastructure – is an innovative project by the district administration to boost rural economy through active involvement of women SHGs.
The project has been taken up to give that extra income to rural families. Based on the principle that women empowerment is one of the important aspects of development of the rural economy, financial assistance and poultry birds and feed is being provided to them.
Similarly, the “Mo Upkari Bagicha'(My Beneficial Garden), the Odisha Government-sponsored programme has been successfully implemented in the district in a bid to combat the long-term nutritional challenges caused by the pandemic.
The programme has turned into a sustainable model for food security and livelihood support in the rural areas of the district.
The programme implemented by the DRDA aims at encouraging women in the district to grow vegetables and fruits at a minimal cost in the backyards of their houses to get fresh vegetables to meet their need and sell the surplus in the market to earn a living.
