Berhampur: The BJD’s social service wing Odisha-Mo Parivar has once again extended helping hands to a grieving family in Ganjam district, whose member passed away in a train accident in Chennai.
With the help of Odisha-Mo Parivar team, the family of late Parshu Jena was able to perform last rites of the deceased in Chennai.
As per reports, Jena, a labourer from Sidhakhandi village under Digapahandi block in Ganjam district, died a railway accident at Gendi Railway Station near Chennai on February 26.
The matter was brought to the knowledge of Arup Patnaik, Convenor Odisha- Mo Parivar by Surjya Narayan Patro, Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly and MLA Digapahandi on February 28.
Arup Patnaik immediately brought the news to the attention of the Chief Minister’s Office where Dr. Gopabandhu Dash, OSD to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, coordinated the matter to the Labour Commissioner, Odisha.
The family of the deceased was reached out and the family expressed their interest in conducting the last rite in Chennai.
Accordingly, Dr. B B Acharya, Consultant to the Odisha Labour Commissioner was reached and requested to coordinate with the officials in Labour Department in Chennai and expedite the procedure and hand over the mortal remains to the kin of the deceased so that the cremation activity can be done.
With the help of Dr. Biren Sahu and Panchanan Jena of Utkal Association, Chennai the IIC of the Govt. Railway Police Station, Mambalam, Chennai was approached and requested to cooperate for a smooth handover of the mortal remains to the paternal cousin of the deceased by the name Mahendra Jena.
At around 3:50 pm the body was taken for autopsy and the body was handed over to the kin by 5:00 pm. Later in the evening the cremation was conducted in Chennai.
The family has extended their gratitude to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Odisha-Mo Parivar team for their prompt action and helping the kin to have a possession of the mortal remains.
The family also thanked Surjya Narayan Patro for his support.
