Ganjam: Women SHGs to Get Disaster Management Training

Berhampur: In yet another innovative initiative, the Ganjam district administration has rolled out an unique project to impart training on disaster preparedness and response to the members of women self-help groups in the district.

The project ‘Swayamsiddha’ launched by Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange at the DSWO office here, aims to provide training on disaster management training and skills to the members of various WSHGs under the Mission Shakti, OLM and DRDA at the panchayat level.

Under the project, the admin targets to train at least 50 WSHG members in each panchayat with the help of OSDMA, Fire and Police Departments.

Since Ganjam is vulnerable to natural calamities, the project will give special focus on coastal Blocks in the district, said an official.

The SHG members in the age group of 18-35 can voluntarily participate in the training programme, he added.

The project will go a long way in empowering the women to face natural disaster and help the society during a calamity.

According to reports, there are more than 60,000 WSHG members in Ganjam district.
