Hathras (Uttar Pradesh): Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other congress leaders reached Hathras on Saturday evening to meet the family members of Dalit woman who died after she was brutally assaulted and allegedly gang-raped.
This was their second attempt to meet the family members, the first one being thwarted by Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday, on the pretext of Section 144.
Earlier in the day, journalists were allowed to enter the village after the Uttar Pradesh administration said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had completed its investigation into the case. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi and DGP Hitesh Chandra Awasthy also met the kin of the deceased today.
On Saturday noon, Rahul and Priyanka started for Hathras by road. At least 35 other Congress leaders including some MPs were also on their way to Hathras. After some scuffles at the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, the Noida Police permitted five members of the Congress delegation to go to Hathras.
