International Poverty Eradication Day: Naveen Reaffirms Commitment to Build Inclusive Society

Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of International Poverty Eradication Day today, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to further intensify efforts to build an inclusive society.

Taking to the social media, the Chief Minister expressed that Odisha’s transformative initiatives and polices have seen sharpest drop in poverty about 25% decline bringing millions out of poverty in last two decades.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed every year since 1993, when the United Nations General Assembly, declared October 17 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, through resolution 47/196 adopted on December 22, 1992.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the declaration by the General Assembly and the theme is ‘Acting together to empower children, their families and communities to end poverty’.

The Day presents “an opportunity to acknowledge the effort and struggle of people living in poverty, a chance for them to make their concerns heard, and a moment to recognize that poor people are the first ones to fight against poverty, according to the UN.
