Abu Dhabi: Rohit Shrma led Mumbai Indians (MI) defeat Steve Smith’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 57 runs in the 20th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Opting to bat first, Rohit & Co. started off in an aggressive manner with the skipper and Quinton de Kock making full use of the powerplays. Suryakumar Yadav smashed his highest score in the tournament as MI put up a clinical performance against a pedestrian RR outfit for its third successive win in IPL 2020. Yadav hammered an unbeaten 79 off 47 balls to fire MI to an imposing 193 for 4.
In response, Royals were down and out at 12 for three before Jos Buttler gave them a glimmer of hope with a 70 off 44 balls.
However, he did not get support from the other batsmen, and the Royals ended up well short at 136 in 18.1 overs for a 57-run loss, their third in a row. The three changes that they made also did not work for them.
After this victory, MI moves up to the top position in the IPL 2020 points table with 8 points from 6 matches. This is MI’s fourth victory in the tournament.
