IPL Betting Racket Busted in Sambalpur, Six Including Kingpin Arrested

Sambalpur: Six persons including the kingpin were arrested by the Sambalpur police in connection with the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting racket.

Acting on a tip-off about an illegal online betting racket, a special team formed under the supervision of IIC Town PS with assistance of Special squad Sambalpur police nabbed the kingpin Subham Kumar Sahu for his involvement in betting racket.
During the raid, the police found Sahu accepting cricket betting by watching cricket in TV and by using online betting app at Golebazar area from the known and unknown punters directly and indirectly over his cell phone.
The police seized two mobile phones and cash of Rs.Rs.1,92,000 from the possession of the accused.

The cops also arrested Sahu’s associate Haris Sahu of Jharsuguda based on account transactions.

During the course of investigations, four more accused Manas Mundra, Pratik Jalan, Subham Ahuja and Ankit Chirania were also arrested by Sambalpur Police for allegedly running an IPL betting racket.

These accused persons used to play on various online betting websites. They have conspired with the help of different agents of Sambalpur and neighbouring district and have collected huge amount from the general public to bet online on IPL cricket with false assurance of getting high returns. They have also formed a group to run the racket at Sambalpur town.

The accused persons have been arrested under various sections of IPC and PCMC Act, the police said while adding that 13 suspicious accounts are being verified to find out the inflow and outflow of money.
