Mo Sarkar: Big Push to Health Infra, Patient Welfare as Naveen Announces Rs 400 Crore Special Package

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved a special package worth Rs 400 crore for several infrastructure development and patient welfare projects in the district hospitals of Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur.
The CM approved the projects based on patients feedback and discussions with doctors by Mo Sarkar team comprising Development Commissioner Suresh Mahapatra, Secretary 5-T Initiatives V K Pandian and Mission Director, NHM, Shalini Pandit.
Talking to the media, Naveen said, “About 10 days ago on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary Mo Sarkar was launched. We focussed on police and health. I have made 120 calls and the response has been overwhelming.”
He said, “As part of our strategy, I had sent senior officers across the State with a directive to cover at least 15 districts. The feedback on peoples’ participation has been very inspiring and the response by both police and health functionaries in the field has been very encouraging”.
Of the Rs 400 crore package, Rs 15 lakh has been sanctioned to all four Rogi Kalyan Samities from CMRF for Patient Welfare and Rs.10 Lakhs to the SPs for promotion of Blood Donation activities, the CM announced.
The bed strength in Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital will be increased to 200 and a 200-bedded new hospital building will be set up. An attendant’s rest shed will be developed. Besides, three ambulances and three Mahaparayan vehicles will be rolled out.
Doctor accommodation and transit home will be set up at district headquarters hospital in Malkangiri. Similarly, bed capacity will be increased to 200.
While there is a detailed planning for a composite hospital with 500 beds at Koraput medical college, in 24 months it will be increased to 700. Attendants rest shed in the present campus will be set up as an interim measure. Staff Quarters and transit home will be established in the composite campus. Besides, five ambulances and three Mahaprayana vehicles will be rolled out.
The bed strength of Koraput district headquarters hospital will be increased to 250. New ward will be constructed above the existing building. A staff quarters and attendants rest shed will also be developed.
