Naveen Congratulates Odisha-Born Archana Soreng on Being Chosen in UN Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Odisha-born Archana Soreng on being chosen in UN Secretary-General’s youth advisory group on climate change.

“Congratulate Odisha’s @Soreng Archana on being chosen in UN Secretary-General’s youth advisory group on climate change. Glad to see our young leaders taking lead roles in combating climate crisis. Wish her best”, the CM tweeted.

Archana Soreng, an alumna of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, has been selected to be part of a seven-member Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. The group has been set up by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres as part of the organisation’s youth strategy. The six other members are from Sudan, Fiji, Moldova, United States, France and Brazil.

Soreng, who completed her MA in regulatory governance, is from the Khadia tribe in Odisha’s Sundergarh district. A “happy” and “thrilled” Soreng said on social media that the struggles and sacrifices of her ancestors and family helped her receive the education she did.

The young climate leaders are between the ages of 18 and 28 years. They will advise Guterres on accelerating global action against the worsening climate crises, an official statement said.
