Naveen Congratulates Tribal Girl Jhulima Mallick on Receiving UN Award for Fight against Child Marriage

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Jhulima Mallick, a tribal girl from Odisha’s Kandhamal district, on winning UN award for her fight against child marriage.

Jhulima has been awarded with the prestigious UNICEF-sponsored V Award at the UN House in New Delhi for her efforts to end child marriage.

Hailing from a tribal family in Bandudi village under Khajuripada block of Kandhamal district, the 22-year-old was also praised for promoting education among girls in her area.

“Congratulate Jhulima Mallick from Kandhamal on receiving @UNICEF V Award for her exemplary work to end child marriage & promote girls’ education. Hailing from a tribal family, her fight against child marriage is an inspiration for others”, the Odisha CM tweeted.

Jhulima was the only one representing Odisha among the 10 selected from all over the nation.

She received the award from Minister of State of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju on the occasion of International Volunteers Day on December 6.
