Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled a Flood Hazard Atlas for Odisha at the State Secretariat here to identify the disaster-prone areas of the State.
Releasing the atlas during the State-level Natural Calamity Committee meeting today, the Chief Minister said that the atlas, jointly prepared by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO, Hyderabad and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), will be highly useful in flood management.
Odisha is a flood-prone State. Flood causes huge damage to life and property every year, Naveen said.
The atlas will help in identifying the disaster-prone areas of the State, so that timely measures will be taken to deal with the situation.
The Flood Hazard Atlas has been designed taking data of floods during 2000-2018. It was also learnt that around 14 lakh ha agricultural land is affected by floods every year.
