Puri: Hours after Puri reported fresh cases of COVID-19 after a gap of nearly five weeks, District Collector Balwant Singh said that there is no need for people to get panic over coronavirus.
The Collector appealed the people of Puri town to remain vigilant and follow social distancing norms strictly in order to contain the spread of the virus.
Even though, Puri is in Green Zone, the people should not take it lightly, Singh said.
He also urged the people not to come out of home unless it is absolutely needed and wear face masks when coming out.
The Collector also instructed the shopkeepers to follow the social distancing guidelines.
The administration will take strong action against those violating the norms, he said.
Briefing the media about the two new COVID-19 cases, Balwant Singh said three persons returned to Puri from West Bengal on May 5 and their samples were sent for testing on May 7. Out three, two came out positive.
The patients (19-year male and 59-year male) will be shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment, he said while adding that the area (Renuka Lane near Puri Sea Beach) will be made containment zone.
Notably, Puri had reported its first positive case of COVID-19 on April 3. The person had recovered after treatment. Now, the district has two active cases.
