Odisha CM Pays Humble Tribute to Jayaprakash Narayan on Birth Anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday paid his humble tribute to great socialist leader late Jayaprakash Narayan on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

Naveen took to twitter to express his gratitude and said that Narayan was a champion of democracy and socialism.

The Odisha CM said that Narayan’s clarion call of ‘Sampoorna Kranti’ had a magical spell on youth and his value based politics is an inspiration for all of us in public life.

Jayaprakash Narayan also popularly known as JP or Lok Nayak, was an Indian independence activist, theorist, socialist and political leader.

He is also known as the “Hero of Quit India Movement” and he is remembered for leading the mid-1970s opposition against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, for whose overthrow he had called for a “total revolution”.

In 1999, he was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in recognition of his social work. Other awards include the Magsaysay award for Public Service in 1965. Many of the current political leaders in the country have cited him as their inspiration, or have cited his movement as the one where they first cut their teeth in politics.
