Odisha CM Pays Tribute to Freedom Fighter Birsa Munda on Birth Anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid his humble tributes to tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary.

The Chief Minister remembered Birsa Munda’s sacrifice and struggle for preserving the rights and culture of tribal communities in India.

Naveen also hailed the revolutionary leader’s contribution towards country’s freedom movement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and other leaders also paid tribute to the revolutionary leader who famously called ‘Dharti Aba’, the father of earth.

Birsa Munda, the tribal revolutionary of the British era, was born on November 15, 1875.

Hailing from Munda tribe, Birsa was a 19th-century folk hero who is known for his Millenarian movement to protest against forceful land grabbing by the British government.

He died on June 9, 1900, in a British jail.
