Odisha CM Pays Tribute to Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo on Birth Anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today paid his humble tributes to Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo on his birth anniversary.

Taking to Twitter, the Chief Minister remembered Bhanjadeo’s contribution towards the formation of separate Odisha province and language movement.

Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo was born on December 17, 1870 to Maharaja of Mayurbhanj Krishna Chandra Bhanj Deo.

After the death of Maharaja Krishna Chandra Bhanj Deo, Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo succeeded to the throne on 29 May 1882.

He worked for the all around development of Mayurbhanj and implemented various welfare schemes designed to help the people. He was revered as a philosopher king. He constituted the state council for administration in the state and brought about reforms in the sphere of language, health and administration.

He was a great patron of Oriya art and culture.

Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo was also a patriot and great patron of the Odia language and presided over the first meeting of Utkal Samilani held on 3 December 1903.
