Paralakhemundi ACF Death Issue: Crime Branch Takes Over Probe

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Crime Branch today took over the mysterious case of death of the Paralakhemundi Assistant Conservator of Forests Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra. ADG Crime Branch Sanjiv Panda today informed media that DG Abhay has directed the Crime Branch to take over the case. The Crime Branch has constituted a three member team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police rank officer for a thorough investigation into the case.

On 11th July 2021, ACF Soumya Ranjan was found with 90 percent burns in his residence at Paralakhemundi and was shifted to Cuttack for treatment where he succumbed on 13th July.

While Odisha Police is currently probing the matter with the help of three members of Crime Branch assisting it, there is no headway in the case. The family members of Soumya Ranjan have demanded a probe by CBI citing the case as a pre planned murder. The post mortem report has stated that the death was due to burns and in the dying declaration, Soumya Ranjan had said that the incident was an accident.

Paralakhemundi Police registered a murder case after the father of Sumya Ranjan sent a written complaint to it and alleged that it is a planned murder. The Police has also interrogated Bidyabharati Panda, wife of Soumya Ranjan Mohapatra, DFO Gajapati and others in this case.
