Salutes to Covid Warrior Hadubandhu For Your Dedication

Berhampur: Hadubandhu Behera, a name unknown to most of us, is a silent but brutal warrior against the dangerous Coronavirus that has become a pandemic.

Hadubandhu’s story of fight is one of the many examples that we find but do not get into limelight. A grassroots based peoples leader Hadubandhu is the Sarapancha of Jagadalpur Gram Panchayat in Kukudakhandi block of Ganjam District.

Since the Corona virus started to spread its tentacles in the rural hinterlands of Ganjam during April, as the head of the Panchayat, Hadubandhu had the sole mission to control it. Despite his ill health, he involved himself in various activities such as spreading awareness and implementing lockdown in the villages.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s historic move to provide the powers of district collectors to sarpanches have encouraged the grassroots leaders like Hadubandhu to bolster their fight against the pandemic.

As an active fighter, he led from the front and inspired many people. While managing the difficult situation in villages was a tough affair, helping the hundreds of migrant workers who came back from other states was his main concern. A lot of development work was carried out under his leadership during the lockdown period. He set himself as an example for other Sarapanchas of the district during the lockdown period.
He never considers any work below to his dignity. For the last 35 years, Hadubandhu sweeps main road of his village very early in the morning in the month of Kartika, when Habisyalis visit temples in the morning.

Hadubandhu is not only the Sarapancha of Jagadalpur Panchayat, he was also a member of the Co-operative Society of Luchapada. During his long tenure of social service, he also served as the Sarapancha of Jagadalpur GP from 1997 to 2002.

Today he has become an example of selfless service for others in the entire district.

Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange has highly appreciated the commitment and dedication of Sarapancha in serving the people.
