Slums in Rourkela to Get Facelift through ‘Slum Chale Hum’ Campaign

Rourkela: The slums in Odisha’s steel city are set to get a major facelift as the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) has come up with an inclusive development plan of the slum areas through its ‘Slum Chale Hum’ campaign.

Under the campaign, the RMC is planning to redevelop various slums in the city with required amenities, such as road, street light, water, sanitation and beautification among others.

The civic body will also address the water logging and urban flood problems through this unique initiative.

Besides, the RMC has also decided to develop the government-run schools in the slum areas by improving infrastructure and other facilities. It is also planning to facilitate digital mode of education at the schools.

RMC Commissioner Divyajyoti Parida, Dy.Commissioner Sudhansu Kumar Bhoi, Social Development & Institutional Strengthening Expert Prasant Kumar Nayak, BCC& Knowledge Management Expert Bipin Mohapatra and other officials visited different slum areas in the city to discuss with the local people about various civic issues they are facing and assured for quick redressal.

As per reports, around 40,000 household of 129 slums live in Rourkela.

The RMC is planning for phase wise inclusive development of slums under the ‘Slum Chale Hum’ campaign, said an official.
