Sundargarh Launches Transformative Initiative ‘Matrujyoti’ for Women & Child Development

Bhubaneswar: In a major transformative initiative on the occasion of International Girl Child Day, the Sundargarh district administration on Sunday launched ‘Matrujyoti’, a flagship program for women and child development.

The transformative initiative will facilitate four ultrasound tests to every pregnant woman in the district. The service will provided at 8 state-run health centres and 41 affiliated private ultrasound clinics in the district.

The Asha and Anganwadi workers will take the pregnant women with them for the ultrasound tests and consult to the doctors.

 

The Matrujyoti programme will benefit more than 2,800 pregnant women every year. It will play an important role in protecting the health of pregnant mothers and children in the district, said Sundargarh Collector Nikhil Pavan Kalyan.

The Matrujyoti programme also entails upgradation of over 2500 existing Aangwadi centres and building over 700 new model Anganwadi centres with child friendly modern infra, he added.
The centres will have toilets, modular kitchen, playground etc for holistic growth of the children.

Besides the ‘Matrujyoti’ programme, the district administration has also launched transformational life skills training program to address inequalities, gender based violence, career enhancement, communication, financial literacy for adolescent girls and women on the occasion of International Girl Child Day2020.
