Tata Power Lowest Bidder For WESCO And SOUTHCO

Bhubaneswar: The Tata Power Company is all set to acquire the distribution and retail supply license for the two Discoms of Odisha WESCO and SOUTHCO. This company has become the lowest bidder for the discoms as the government tries to again privatise them.

Tata power had acquired another utility CESU in Odisha last year. While the Western Electricity Supply Utility of Odisha Ltd (WESCO) supplies electricity to Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi, SOUTHCO has the rights for retail supply of electricity to eight districts of Odisha namely Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagarda, Koraput, Nabarangapur and Malkanagiri.

The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Authority (OERC) had invited bids for privatization of the two discoms earlier this year in which only two bidders participated including India Power Corporation in association with French power utility Electricite de France (EDF).
