New Delhi: Schools in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Sikkim will be reopening the schools after remaining shut for nearly 7 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The respective state governments have given relaxation in their coronavirus protocol, allowing schools to resume operations with the physical presence of students of class 9th to 12th.
The ‘Unlock 5’ guidelines of the ministry of home affairs have allowed the schools to reopen across the country after October 15 in a graded manner. The schools in these three states will open by following strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid down by the Union ministries of education and health, as well as the protocols set by the state.
Uttar Pradesh
1. Classes will be held in shifts and all necessary protocols including social distancing and proper sanitisation of premises will have to be followed by schools.
2. 50 per cent of the students should be called in every class on one day and the remaining 50 per cent the next day.
3. In case of symptoms of cold or fever in any student, teacher or other employees, they will be sent home after primary treatment.
4. Students will only be allowed to attend classes after furnishing written permission from their parents or guardians, the government said.
5. No student should be forced to come to school
Punjab
1. Staff and students belonging to containment zones shall not attend the school and other educational institutions
2. The schools will open for three hours a day
3. Only one student will be allowed to sit on one bench.
4. Students will be able to attend the physical classes only with the written consent of parents.
5. All school gates to remain open at the time of entry and exit to avoid overcrowding.
Sikkim
The Sikkim government has decided to reopen all schools from October 19 in a graded manner. The state partially opened schools on September 21. The state government has come up with a new academic calendar doing away with winter vacation and Saturday holidays to make up for the lost time.
According to the calendar, students of classes 11 and 12 will be able to attend schools on a voluntary basis from October 19, but each of them will have to carry a written permission from parents or guardian.
Similary, classes 6-8 will resume on November 2, and classes 3, 4 and 5 on November 23, all on a voluntary basis, and subject to the COVID-19 situation prevailing at that time.
