Congress Faces Boomerang in Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Congress is facing difficult time inside the Assembly in its first session itself. The weapon Odisha Congress used to apply against the BJD during 15th Assembly turned as boomerang for the Congress this session.

The Odisha Assembly was adjourned twice on Monday as Congress members created noisy scenes demanding a discussion on challenges facing the farmers and steps taken by the state government for them.

Congress members moved a notice seeking a discussion on the plight of farmers as soon as the House assembled for the question hour. Speaker Surya Narayan Patro, however rejected the notice. Congress members rushed to the well of the House and some of them even tried to climb onto his podium.

Congress members led by Tara Prasad Bahinipati trooped into the wall shouted slogan and tried to snatch the microphone of the speaker to lodge their protest. Finding the situation out of hand out of control, the Speaker adjourned the house twice as the Congress member continued their agitation inside the well of the house. With the 16 members, Congress had got the status of opposition party the during the 15th Assembly, and used to move adjournment motion for the opposition ignoring BJP, which had only 8 members at that time.

The climate in the 16th Assembly however changed completely as BJP which was marginalised in the last Assembly with just 10 seats , now grab the seat of main opposition in the Odisha Assembly. It is quite obvious that with the loss of main opposition party tag to the BJP, the Speaker has the right to reject the adjournment motion moved by the Congress.

It is interesting to see how the congress which has leaders, like Narasingh Mishra, Tara Bahinipati, Ramesh Jena who can make uproar for no reasons could mane Adjournment motion jolt during the 16th Assembly.
