Berhampur: Convalescent plasma therapy has been showing good results in treating serious COVID-19 patients in Odisha’s Ganjam district, which has come a long way to bring the corona pandemic under control.
As per the data given by the Ganjam administration, as many as 61 COVID-patients have been administrated convalescent plasma therapy plasma therapy till date at three dedicated COVID hospitals – MKCG MCH, Ashiwini and Tata – since the beginning of this new method of treatment.
Of them, 13 patients have recovered from the corona disease. The condition of the nine patients are said to be stable and condition of 30 more patients have improved. However, seven critical patients succumbed to the virus despite plasma therapy and two more patients did not response well to the therapy.
Meanwhile, the district administration has stepped up its efforts to mobilize the COVID-19 recovered patients to come forward for plasma donation.
According to Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, the ongoing door-to-door health screening of the discharged patients has been helping the administration immensely to motivate them to donate plasma for a noble cause.
So far 78 units of plasma including 15 units from SCB, Cuttack have been collected from the donors, he said.
Plasma is the liquid portion of the blood. The medical experts argue that convalescent plasma can be given to people with severe COVID-19 to boost their ability to fight the virus.
Notably, plasma therapy began in Ganjam district on July 21.
