Ganjam: ‘Safa’ App for Cleaner Berhampur

Berhampur: Do you have garbage at your home or locality that needs to be cleared? Not a problem! Don’t dump it anywhere and no need to run here and there for complaints. Just manage it sitting from your home. A new mobile app ‘Safa’ is coming soon to address the garbage problem in Berhampur.

The core of the digital initiative, the unique app ‘Sofa’ has been developed by the Ganjam district administration to keep the Silk City clean and green. Using the app, the residents of the Silk City can book a garbage collection vehicle for lifting of garbage from their doorstep. The app will also help lodging complaints regarding non-lifting of garbage on streets and bins. The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has designed this user friendly app to streamline the garbage picking service in the city.

Apart from daily door-to-door garbage picking by BeMC, the specially made GPS-enabled Safa vehicles will soon be introduced in the city for the cleanliness drive. The Safa app functions just like any other popular app such as Ola and Uber. The trial run of the app will be launched next week. Initially, the Safa service will be available free of cost to the residents and BeMC will charge for the service later on, said Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

Not only the residents in the Silk city, but also the hotels and other business establishments can use the app to keep their surroundings clean and green. The Ganjam administration’s initiative comes at a time when the nation is preparing for 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, who always stressed on sanitation and cleanliness as the philosophy of life.
