Naveen Approves Rs 100 Crore For Urban Employment Initiative

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved an amount of Rs 100 crore under the Urban Wage Employment Initiative that will help more than four and half lakh urban poor families through creation of employment opportunity.

According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office, the special program will be implemented in 114 urban local bodies of the state to help the economically backward class people. It will be implemented with the help and cooperation of the Mission Shakti members from April to September this year. The beneficiaries of this program will receive their remuneration weekly through bank accounts.

Named as Urban Wage Employment Initiative, this emergency program will include labourers, daily workers and poor people of the urban local bodies.

Under the program, a number of labour intensive works will be carried out to provide livelihood to the needy. Desilting of drains, digging and renovating water bodies, development of parks, playgrounds and other amenities, forestation, setting up of SHG offices, public toilets and urban beautification are some of the works included in the program. Local artisans and workers will be given works such as creating wall paintings and murals. All these works will be undertaken by strict adherence to Social Distance norms.
