New COVID Strain: UK Returnee Identified in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: One person, who has recently returned from the United Kingdom, has been identified in Bhubaneswar.

The person has been identified by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and has been kept in isolation at a hospital.

His history is being ascertained and genome study will reveal whether the person is infected or not, the BMC said while adding that his entire family will undergo COVID-19 tests.

The civic body said that all precautionary measures have been taken in view of the outbreak of a new mutated variant of coronavirus strain in the United Kingdom.

The BMC also urged the people not to get panic over new COVID strain.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar have issued a fresh standard operating procedure (SOP) for the foreign returnees.

As per the SOP, the air travelers will have to undergo antigen test at a special kiosk of the BMC on premises of the airport terminal.

BPIA Director Gautam Ray has asked all the airline operators to share details about passengers, who have recently returned from overseas.
