NITI Aayog CEO Lauds Odisha Millet Mission

New Delhi: NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant has lauded the Odisha Millet Mission (OMM) for the path breaking work it is doing to revive millets in farms and on plates.

“My Congratulations to @ Millets Odisha for the path breaking work it is doing to revive millets in farms & on plates. They have low glycemic index, high in dietary fibre, high in calcium & iron & gluten free. Millets now being used for curd rice, khichdi, pakodas, kheer & payasam”, Amitabh Kant tweeted.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik thanked the NITI Aayog for its appreciation for Odisha Millet Mission and expressed that his government is working on a mission mode to augment farmers’ income and boost household consumption of nutritious cereals through OMM.

The Odisha Government has launched the OMM in 2017 for promotion of millets in tribal areas of the State.

The OMM is a unique project which focuses on improved production of nutri-cereals, local consumption, procurement under MSP and distribution through PDS.

Earlier, the NITI Aayog has urged other States to replicate Odisha Millet Mission for promotion of millets, pulses and oilseeds.
