Berhampur: In what could be the longest seafaring for returning home during the lockdown period, 29 stranded labourers from Chennai today returned to Odisha by a fishing boat.
As many as 38 labourers including 29 Odia labourers started their journey five days back with the intention to reach Odisha amidst the lockdown.
Of the 29 workers, 24 belong to Sunapur GP, three to Eksingi GP and two to Rangeilunda block in Ganjam district. The rest nine labourers are from Andhra Pradesh.
They reached Pati Sonepur in Ganjam district today evening.
The district administration, which had prior knowledge about their return, had made arrangements to check up the health of the returning labourers and keep them in quarantine, said Sub- Collector, Berhampur Shinde Dattatraya Bhausaheb.
