Ganjam Admin Clamps Section 144 to Curb COVID-19

Berhampur: In a significant development, the Ganjam district administration on Sunday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC to avoid spreading of COVID-19.

In a notification Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said that the Section 144 has been imposed in view of immediate prevention and to safe guard the life of general public of the district.

  • No gathering of more than five persons will be allowed in this district in any public or private places except gathering inside house or house premises and weekly market, the notification said.
  • No social and ritual functions shall be conducted.
  • No Jani and Yatra, such as Danda Nacha, opera show, marriage barat shall be organised, the notification added.
  • Similarly, no political rally and gathering for agitation should be conducted.
  • Any type of Kalyan Mandap shall not be permitted to any functions where public gathering possibilities.
  • All Hotels or Dharmasala where people reside on regular basis coming from outside should keep all precautionary measures of COVID 2019 like hand sanitizer and room during the period. Distribution of leaflets or any other awareness materials regarding Corona Virus must be undertaken only with prior approval of District Magistrate, the notification said.

However, the examinations in the schools and colleges will be conducted, the Collector stated.
