Naveen Keeps His Words, Cabinet Approves Shri Lingaraj Temple Ordinance in Line with Sri Jagannath Temple Act
Bhubaneswar: In a historic move, Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved Shri Lingaraj Temple Ordinance in line with Sri Jagannath Temple Act, 1955 for the day-to-day management of the 11th century shrine.
During his visit to Lingaraj Temple on December 2 to review progress of various projects taken up under the Ekamra project, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik promised to bring a special Act to govern Lingaraj Temple in line with Sri Jagannath Temple of Puri.
Exactly 12 days after this, Odisha Cabinet headed by the Chief Minister has passed an ordinance called Shri Lingaraj Temple Ordinance, 2020.
The 11th century shrine is presently governed by Odisha Hindu Religious Endowment Act. The Lingaraj Temple Act will help in better execution of rituals and management.
As per Lingaraj Temple Act, a Managing Committee of 15 members will be formed and empowered to manage affairs of the temple including seva-puja and nitis. The Committee will administer the temple & its properties including temples outside the premises and Mathas.
An administrator will be appointed to manage day-to-day affairs while necessary provision will be made for budget, audit and inspection. The legislation will also help in protection, management of temple properties and eviction of unauthorised occupants.
