State Election Commission Issues Guidelines For Panchayat Elections

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission has issued a set of guidelines to ensure free and fare Panchayat elections in the state. According to the guidelines issued today, there will be ban on sale and distribution of liquor 48 hours ahead of polls till the day following the voting day. No weapons or licensed firearms are allowed near the polling booths. The restrictions will be imposed during each phase of polling. The Commission has directed the officials to strictly ensure that liquor is not served in hotels or distributed in the areas where elections will be held. There will be no transportation of liquor to the areas where elections are going to be held.

The State Election Commission in its fresh guidelines, has said that no unauthorized persons will be allowed to stay near the polling booths. All Government and Private Employees will be given paid live to allow them to exercise their franchise. Three days Casual Leave will be given to the employees who are staying far away from their voting constituency.

Among others, the new guidelines say that all the Courts will remain closed on the polling day at places where voting will take place.
