New Delhi: Amid the rise in black fungus cases among COVID-19 patients in several States, the Union Health Ministry today urged the State Governments to declare ‘mucormycosis’ or black fungus a notifiable disease under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.
“All Government and private health facilities, medical colleges should follow guidelines for screening, diagnosis, management of mucormycosis, issued by MoHFW & ICMR,” the Union Health Ministry said.
As many as 90 people have died of mucormycosis or black fungus in Maharashtra, according to reports.
Rajasthan and Telangana have already declared black fungus as an epidemic.
